The Polestar 2 will start at about 59,900 euros, with a range of about 275 miles. That's about the same as tesla's Model 3, which costs 58,800 euros in the European market and has a range of 260 miles.


Tesla was hit when influential us magazine consumer reports reported reliability problems with the Model 3 and withdrew support for the car. Analysts say Polestar was built on a Volvo platform and is strong in design.

Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar's chief executive, told Reuters he hoped to get sales above 50,000 in two to three years once deliveries of new cars begin in the first half of 2020, but said how much capacity the company was ready to build would depend on market conditions.
 

Carmakers such as Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW, which have reportedly launched high-end electric cars over the past year, are starting to deliver them as they look to muscle in on a market that until now has been dominated by tesla.
